My Approach to Treating Patients
Surgery can often relieve pain, restore
physical function and improve the quality of life. Before proceeding
with any operation, however, both patient and surgeon must make
the decision together. There must be careful consideration of
the risks, benefits, and alternatives to surgery. Sometimes careful
watching and waiting is indicated and in other cases surgery is
the first and best method of treatment.
When patient care honors the balance
between a conservative and an aggressive approach to an orthopedic
problem, patients have the best chance for excellent results.
